The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPR&ED) will host Peg AtKisson of Grant Writing Seminars and Workshops, LLC, for her “Write Winning Grant Proposals” seminar on Friday, Oct. 7. The registration deadline is Sept. 12.

The seminar, designed for faculty members and administrative staff who have had some exposure to writing grant applications, either through training/mentoring or personal experience, comprehensively addresses both practical and conceptual aspects of the proposal-writing process.

Emphasis is given to idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant's case to reviewers. Regardless of the agency, participants are taught to write with a linear progression of logic, leading reviewers through their applications. Strategies designed to merit a fundable priority score are emphasized.

Participants are eligible for the Phase II workshop in December. That workshop is designed to help up to 30 applicants write and submit the best possible proposal. In order to be considered for participation in the Phase II workshop, participants must be nominated by their collegiate associate dean for research and submit the required pre-proposal on or before 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. Participants are selected after pre-proposals are reviewed by AtKisson and OVPR&ED.   

AtKisson received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2002 and is an associate member of Grant Writer’s Seminars and Workshops, LLC.  During her work with Tufts University, she made significant contributions to over $140 million in funded grants, including proposal writing, grantsmanship support, team building and strategy design for all areas of research and scholarship.
