Faculty, staff and students of public or private colleges or universities in Iowa, and researchers and educators affiliated with Iowa state agencies may apply for seed grants from the University of Iowa Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination. The application deadline is January 15, 2018.

Funding emphasis is on original pilot studies leading to innovative lines of environmental and public health research. CHEEC is especially interested in proposals that address issues of emerging relevance to the public health of Iowans, including

• Harmful algal blooms and microcystins
• Emerging and unregulated disinfection byproducts
• Agriculturally derived pathogens in surface water and groundwater resources
• Lead and copper in public water systems
• Impacts of air quality surrounding concentrated animal feeding operations

The program seeks to fulfill education and research missions of Iowa colleges and universities by involving students in research activities.  The maximum award is $40,000. The awards cover one year. CHEEC anticipates making up to six awards this funding cycle.
