On the evening of Thursday, October 4, world-renowned Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter will visit the University of Iowa and illuminate the Old Capitol Museum.

Hofstetter transforms buildings, monuments, and natural landscapes throughout the world into temporary works of art with spectacular light projections. He has illuminated icebergs, the Colosseum, Great Pyramids, Washington Cathedral, among many others.

His visit is a part of Light Art Grand Tour USA – 50 US Monuments in the Spotlight. In partnership with the premier event company, Hayes Group, they will travel to all 50 states to put the roots and history of the USA in the spotlight.

On October 4 at 5:00pm in the Old Capitol Museum, he will deliver a Creative Matters talk and Q&A with the audience. After his talk, Hofstetter will illuminate the east side of the Old Capitol. Details about the public lighting are available on Facebook.

As a former head of investment banking, Hofstetter holds degrees in business administration and marketing. In the Swiss Armed Forces, he was a Mountain Special Forces Captain and instructor for special operations in mountain warfare and combat search and rescue.

Hofstetter’s visit is sponsored by the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums. His talk is part of the Creative Matters lecture series sponsored by the UI Office of Research and Economic Development in collaboration with the UI Arts Advancement Committee.
