Award notices from the NSF will arrive with a new training requirement for proposals submitted after July 31, 2023.
“All faculty and senior personnel will need to ensure that they complete a new online course called RECR (responsible and ethical conduct of research),” said Mike Andrews, Director of Research Integrity & Security in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).
Instructions for completing the online RECR course are available on the RECR webpage.
Faculty and senior personnel will have 30 days to complete the training after receiving the notification of funding from the NSF. Completion of training is not required at the time of proposal submission.
The NSF requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research previously applied only to undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and NIH K-award funded faculty. Details about the University’s training obligations for trainees in these classifications are available on the responsible conduct of research website.
Questions about the new RECR requirements should be directed to Mike Andrews, Director of Research Integrity and Security, michael-andrews@uiowa.edu.
